Our reasons for getting involved with a home based business were not earth shaking.  In 1979 Linda had quit her job as Chief Medical Technologist in charge of 3 departments; Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Ultra-Sound, and Radio Immuno Assay due to a back injury and dissatisfaction with working 3 jobs and being paid for one.  Also the medical profession didn’t turn out to be a place where she could really help people.  The same people kept coming back with the same problems.  After having taken several cooking courses and participating in a number of other activities Linda was looking for something to do.  Lowell was looking for a tax shelter.  As an airline pilot the pay was good and the time off was good but the taxes were killing us.  A home based business seemed like the only legitimate tax shelter that didn’t require a large investment of capital.  Linda’s interest was in the products.  They had to be good if there was going to be a business.

Little did we know what a wonderful opportunity we had discovered, how great the tax shelter is, and how fabulous the products are.  Actually Lowell’s opinion of network marketing was somewhat negative but at least he was willing to concede that maybe his opinions were not correct.  We also didn’t know that the airline Lowell was working for was going to go out of business.  In this day and age job security is a myth.  We now believe everyone should have a backup plan; a Plan-B.  Prior to the airline paycheck going to zero and the planned retirement dropping to a pittance, our business was a supporting cast member in the play called “our lives”.  In 1989 our supporting cast member was thrust into the lead roll.  That is probably the best thing that has ever happened to us (besides getting married) as life is far better than we had ever imagined it could be.
